Program Description:
Be an Abroad at AU Orientation Leader!

Did you know that American University receives approximately 100 study abroad students each semester? AU welcomes students from over 40 countries who study here for a semester or year.  Abroad at AU hosts orientation events before the start of the Fall and Spring semesters to help the students transition to life at AU.  We are  looking for Orientation Leaders (OLs) to help facilitate these orientation activities.

Time Commitment Fall 2018

Must have availability for all of the following:
Sunday, August 19th: Orientation Leader Training (mid-day)
Monday, August 20th: Student Meet and Greet (afternoon)
Tuesday, August 21st: Orientation (morning/afternoon)
Wednesday, August 22nd: Orientation (morning/afternoon)
Thursday, August 23rd: SNAPSHOT DC (all-day)

Must have availability for at least two of the following: 
Sunday, August 19th: Campus Tour (afternoon)
Sunday, August 19th: Dinner (evening)
Monday, August 20th: Campus Tour and Lunch (late morning/early afternoon)
Monday, August 20th: Bed, Bath, and Beyond (evening)
Tuesday, August 21st: Dinner (evening)
Wednesday, August 22nd: Dinner (evening)

Qualifications
  • Full-time student at American University in good academic standing – we welcome both international (Abroad at AU students) and domestic students.   If a domestic student, we prefer students who have already studied abroad.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in connecting with people from other cultures.  
  • Be reliable, on-time, and able to solve problems in real time.
  • Proven ability to work successfully with a team.
  • Be available for the above listed training and orientation events

Orientation Leader Duties:
  • Serve as a role model and a resource to new international students during orientation week
  • Facilitate ice-breakers and lead an off-campus scavenger hunt for an orientation groups
  • Organize and lead social events around Tenleytown to facilitate social connections among new Abroad at AU students
