Is this Program Right for You?

Kings logoKing's College London is one of the two oldest and largest colleges of the University of London. It has a leading position in UK higher education and a world-wide reputation for research and teaching. King's is perhaps the most central of all universities in London, composed of three beautiful campuses right along the River Thames.

The King's College London Summer School Program now gives students the chance take courses during the Summer at this prestigious university. The focus of the program is on arts, humanities, politics & cultural management. A wide range of high quality university level courses are offered led by experienced academic staff who do cutting-edge research in the areas they teach. Visits to the finest cultural institutions, galleries and museums of London will be integrated into the courses.

Studying in England is very different than what you might be used to.  Students are expected to study outside of class to retain a majority of the subject matter.  Unlike universities in the United States, the majority of each student’s grades in England is based on one or two large assignments or solely on the final test – not on class participation or attendance.  This study abroad experience will provide you much independence and opportunity to get to know students from Britain and all over the world.

Courses will run in two consecutive three-week sessions and students can decide whether to study for one or two sessions.

Academic Information

AU students directly enroll in the King's program and earn full AU credit.  Courses will run in two blocks of three weeks and participants will be able to take a course in either one or both sessions. Students take one course per session.  One course at King's College London equates to four AU credits.

Kings campusThe program will focus on Natural and Mathematical Sciences,  Arts, Literature, and Culture , Business and Management, Health and Society, Latin and Ancient Greek, Law, and Politics and Social Sciences.

Each of the King's courses are offered at a first year undergraduate level and have a minimum of 45 contact hours over three weeks. Most also have an interactive approach and may include discussion groups and seminars, scenarios and role play. Students may be taken outside of the classroom to see how the subject resonates within London or even further afield in Europe. This combination of academic rigor and an interactive approach makes sure our courses are as intensive as they are rewarding.

Student Life

Life in London

London is truly one of the most dynamic and exciting cities in the world, offering students an unparalleled environment in which to live and study. Whether your interest is art and theater, politics and economics, or film and music, it can all be found in abundance. King's College is in between the City of London, which is the financial and legal centre of the capital, and the West End with its shops, bars, theatres, museums and other major tourist attractions. King's College is composed of three campuses, all of which are in the center of the city near the famous River Thames. Already a leading university in London, King's College was made even more famous by Dan Brown's novel The DaVinci Code, in which the renowned Religion Department library played a role.

The King's Summer School program will also offer a rich program of various voluntary social activities.
