Is This Program Right for You?

ITAM campusBusiness & Culture in Mexico is a six-week, program offered during the summer for undergraduate students interested in learning about Mexico’s business environment and language and culture. This program is designed for students to take Business courses in English with the option of also learning or improving their Spanish in Mexico City!

Academics

This six-week program offers the undergraduate student of business the opportunity to learn Mexico's business environment and its contribution to the global economic community. Students study alongside their Mexican counterparts at ITAM - Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico to better understand the opportunities and challenges facing companies doing business in Mexico and Latin America. It also is designed to build awareness of the realities of conducting business in a developing country.  Fully accredited by AACSB, business students may take courses that may be applied to the business degree here at AU. 

In the Business subjects, International Business in Mexico and International Finance, international students will work together with ITAM’s own Business students to explore both aspects of the country and its role in the global economic community. Language and Culture courses will be give students an additional dimension into the cultural environment of the country. All courses will also include visits to leading Business and Cultural sites of Mexico City and some optional visits to sites in the provinces will also be organized.

Course Options

International Business: This course provide students with an understanding of the most important aspects of international business including: Political and Economic Environments, Investment, Trade and Related Agreements, Tax Systems, Human Resources.

International Marketing: This course will enable students to meet the needs of the global consumer in a competitive manner, as well as to coordinate marketing activities within the context of a global environment.

International Finance: This course will familiarize the student with the issues that shape today's global markets and to acquire the skills necessary to tackle managerial problems relation to international investing, finance, and exchange rate risk management.

Business Communication: Students will learn principles, strategies and communication methods through debates, exercises, examples and cases

Each business subject comes back as 3 AU credits. 

In addition to business subjects, ITAM also offers Spanish Language and Culture courses which may include:

Spanish Language and Composition
Business Spanish
Mexican History and Culture

Course Equivalency

Student Life

ITAM campusStudents are able to learn first hand about our neighbor to the South, which has over 12,000 years of history. ITAM, a private institution of 5,800 students, is conveniently located in suburban Mexico City, where students can experience Aztec Pyramids and modern shopping within steps of one another!

Housing

ITAM will arrange for students to live in a comfortable student residence within walking distance of ITAM.  Accommodation is completely furnished with full kitchen facilities,  Common living and dining rooms, roof garden, wireless internet, 24-hour security, bedding (students should bring their own towels), and all utilities. Laundry services are also located on the premises.  

The following types of rooms are available at the following rates* for the entire period of the summer program:

Double-Occupancy room/en suite bath :  US$600 per person
Single room/shared bath  US$ 680.00 per person
Single room/en suite bath US$980.00

*Please note that rental prices are established in Mexican pesos but may vary slightly due to exchange rate fluctuations. These prices are listed for informational purposes only. The price for each room will be specified at the time the reservation is confirmed.

Shortly after May 1st, ITAM will begin the process of assigning accommodation in a private residence via e-mail, in accordance with the number of students enrolled in the program.  Placements will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

Meals

Students are responsible for their own meals. All residences have cooking facilities.
