Is this Program Right for You?
Experience one of the most exciting cities in East Asia -- Seoul, the capital of South Korea! As the oldest university in Korea, Yonsei University was first established in 1885. Yonsei University is considered the leading institution of higher education in Korea , as well as the most international university in the country.
Yonsei University offers an excellent 6-week summer program which gives AU students the opportunity to study abroad and take 2-3 courses. The Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) is an opportunity to experience and study Korean and East Asian culture in depth.
Academic Information
The Yonsei International Summer School offers courses primarily in the areas of International Relations, International Business, East Asian Studies and Korean Studies. Please visit the Yonsei University website for a list of courses offered during the Summer Session. Depending on student demand and teacher availability, some course availability may change. Students interested in taking Korean language courses will receive a Placement Test upon arrival.
Student Life
Life in Seoul
Yonsei is fortunate to have a spacious, quiet, and well-wooded campus located just 20 minutes away from the economic, political, and cultural centers of the Seoul 's metropolitan area. Seoul is the center of politics, culture, and economy in Korea. Ministries, government offices, embassies, theaters, department stores, as well as other high office buildings are all a short trip from Yonsei University.Although Korea has experienced a lot of Western influence in modern history, there are old norms and traditional culture that still persist despite the recent changes. In this sense, Korea provides a particularly advantageous position from which to study the changing culture, economics, and politics of all the nations of the East Asian region.
Special student activities that are part of the Summer Session include classes in Taekwondo, Korean Ceramics, Poongmool (Folk Music), Calligraphy and Painting, Danso (Bamboo Flute), Traditional Dance, and more. In Seoul , students can visit museums, palaces, temples, and attend Korean traditional music and dance performances. Tour South Korea (the "Field Trip") offers students a way to explore the country, prior to the beginning of classes.
Housing and Meals
Yonsei University 's International Student House offers excellent
equipment and facilities. Housing consists of double rooms. Students are responsible for purchasing their own meals. There is no meal plan, but there are many alternatives such as the college cafeterias, or in the university area's many restaurants.
