How to download and activate AlertTraveler

(If you are studying abroad for a second semester at location different from your first semester, please scroll down for instructions.)

Step 1: Install AlertTraveler on your Phone

Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play store and download AlertTraveler
Allow all access permissions requested

Step 2 - Get Registration Password

Login to your AU Abroad Applicant Home page at auabroad.american.edu
Find the “AlertTraveler" tab at the top

Enter your US mobile number

Click “Email me my password” on this panel to create your password.

Step 3 – Activate AlertTraveler on your Phone

Enter your AU email and generated password in the app on your phone.

AlertTraveler is a mobile application that utilizes GPS and your study abroad program itinerary to provide you with country and city intelligence to help you make informed decisions while traveling; safety and security alerts to let you know of any events that could potentially impact your travel or safety; and an instant check-in option allowing you to report your status back to AU Abroad in case of an incident.

If this is your second semester abroad, but you're studying at a new location:

Step 1: Locate the "Activate AlertTraveler" Material in your application.

It will be located under "Offline requirements." Click on the "Click here to activate AlertTraveler" link. Make sure you still have the AlertTraveler app on your phone!

Step 2: Click the green "Already Activated?" Button

This should re-sync your AlertTraveler and your new application.
