Study Abroad for Audio Technology and Audio Production Majors

  • Generally, students study abroad during their junior year or during the summer. The decision when to study abroad should be made in consultation with the student’s academic advisor and be based on what courses the student has already taken in their major.
 
  • Students need to let their academic advisor know as soon as possible about their desire to study abroad so they can meet to discuss their study abroad goals and how to fit this experience into their specific academic program and graduation requirements.
 
  • Students should plan to take all core requirements at American University.  Students should take ATEC 311 and ATEC 411 at AU in consecutive semesters and study abroad should be planned around that sequence. 
 
  • It is recommended that students complete at least 80% of their general education requirements before studying abroad.
  • Audio Technology and Audio Production majors can count up to six credit hours of courses taken while abroad towards their major course requirements 
 
  • Students should plan to take their major elective credits and/or concentration credits abroad (music/communications if Audio Production or physics/computer science if Audio Technology.  Students may find more courses available to them abroad in their concentration.  Please also see the major advising sheets for these subjects when considering your study abroad location.
