Program Description:

AU Abroad Student Mobility Awards

Student mobility awards of up to $2,500 per semester (Fall or Spring) are available for general study abroad. Additionally, awards of up to $1,500 are offered for summer language immersion programs.

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration, you must be an AU degree-seeking undergraduate student and complete a general application to study abroad. Students who have not studied or traveled abroad in the past are strongly encouraged to apply. These competitive awards are granted on the basis of merit, need, and the quality of the essay. Scholarships are for only one semester of study in an AU Abroad Site or Partner. Previous award winners are not eligible. 

ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE STATED DEADLINES. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. RECOMMENDATIONS MUST BE FROM A FACULTY MEMBER WHO HAS TAUGHT YOU IN A UNIVERSITY CLASS.


Service requirements

Students who are awarded AU student mobility grants will be expected to assist the AU Abroad office with outreach and predeparture events for prospective study abroad students when they return to campus. Student will be expected to participate in at least 2 of the following activities:
  • Fall study abroad fair
  • Spring study abroad fair
  • Informational session on the program which they attended
  • Predeparture session for the program which they attended
  • Preview day programs for prospective AU students

By submitting your scholarship application materials, you are granting the University permission to use any photographs, audio, and/or videotapes and quotes taken in connection with AUA for any educational and other purposes related to the business of American University. In addition, if you are granted a scholarship, you will be expected to fulfill the service requirements listed above.
