AU Abroad, in consultation with the Department of Arab World Studies, offers a selection of programs suited for Arab World Studies majors and minors. These programs are recommended based on the academic quality of the host institution’s course offerings in the subject of study. In addition to the following programs, students can also explore other options through AU Abroad.

Below is a selection of highlighted study abroad programs.  NOTE--The list below includes recommended options only.  Students are not limited to just these programs! For a comprehensive listing of options, complete university descriptions, and course listings, please visit AU Abroad brochure webpages.  
 

Programs at Partner Institutions

England

Jordan

  • Area & Arabic Language Studies in Jordan (AMIDEAST) 
    • Modern Standard Arabic courses:  Required - available at all levels
      Colloquial Arabic courses: Required
      Program structure:  This program is offered in coordination with AMIDEAST.  Students take courses with other study abroad students at the AMIDEAST Center in Amman.  In addition to language courses, students take content courses in English about the MENA region.  AMIDEAST also coordinates student homestays or shared apartments, excursions and cultural activities as part of the program.
  • CET - Intensive Language 
    • Modern Standard Arabic courses:  Required (Prerequisites: ARAB 202 or its equivalent)
      Colloquial Arabic courses: Required 
      Program structure: This program is offered in coordination with CET.  Students take courses with other U.S. students and commit to an Arabic language pledge.  Students choose two content courses which are instructed in either Arabic and include topics on contemporary Jordanian life and culture, media Arabic, translation, etc.  CET coordinates student housing in apartments with CET and Jordanian roommates, and has language partners, excursions and cultural activities as part of the program.  
  • CET - Internship 
    • Modern Standard Arabic courses:  Required - available at all levels
      Colloquial Arabic courses: Required
      Program structure:  This program is offered in coordination with CET.  Students are required to have an internship, using English or Arabic. Students take courses with other study abroad students.  Language and content courses take place with CET at the University of Jordan.  Content courses are focused on Middle East history, politics and culture.  CET also coordinates student apartment housing with CET and Jordanian roommates, excursions, and cultural activities as part of the program.

Morocco

  • Area & Arabic Language Studies in Morocco (AMIDEAST)  
    • Modern Standard Arabic courses:  Required- available at all levels
      Colloquial Arabic courses: Required
      Program structure: This program is offered in coordination with AMIDEAST.  Students take courses with other study abroad students.  Arabic language courses and MENA topics courses in English take place at the AMIDEAST Center in Rabat.  AMIDEAST coordinates homestays, excursions and cultural activities as part of the program.  
  • Regional Studies in French (AMIDEAST)  
    • Modern Standard Arabic courses:  available at all levels
      Colloquial Arabic courses: Required
      Program structure: This program is offered in coordination with AMIDEAST.  Students take French topics MENA related courses with other study abroad students.  AMIDEAST coordinates homestays, excursions and cultural activities as part of the program.
