The beauty of Australia is waiting for you!

NOTE: The program at the University of Wollongong is now run through our provider, AustraLearn!

Australia has a parliamentary political system, influential indigenous cultures, a world-famous film industry, a deep concern for the environment, and a natural economic affiliation with many of the countries that make up the Asia-Pacific arena. Would you like to experience life in this country 'down under?' As an American University student, you have the opportunity to directly enroll in classes at the University of Wollongong (UOW), one of Australia's leading educational institutions.

Prerequisites

Students must have a 3.0 minimum GPA in order to attend the University of Wollongong.

Student Life

AustraLearn's program at University of Wollongong gives students the chance to discover a diverse range of specialized, quality programs led by academic staff who are leaders in their field. Strong links and regular interaction with industry and business allow the university to base its teaching on the latest global trends set against a culturally diverse backdrop. UOW's mission is to continue to explore, develop and use human and technological capacity for the benefit of its region, the nation and the international community. By living and studying at UOW in the midst of local Australians, American University students will learn to live life as the Australians do.

AustraLearn, an Approved AU Abroad Program Provider, provides a variety of top notch services to prepare AU students for a successful experience abroad at Wollongong. Students are assigned a personal coordinator with whom they will communicate prior to departure. AustraLearn also organizes an orientation in Cairns, Northern Queensland during the first four days in Australia. In addition to meeting other AustraLearn program participants, students visit the Great Barrier Reef and a rain forest habitat where they have a chance to discuss the culture of Australia and its relationship to the overall study abroad experience. Upon arrival in Adelaide students participate in an orientation program that includes information sessions and academic advising as well as several fun social events to encourage interaction with local Australian students.

Life in Wollongong

The city of Wollongong rests upon a beautiful part of the New South Wales coastline, just an hour south of Sydney. It is Australia's eighth largest city and home to some of Australia's most pristine beaches. The campus, located between the green foothills of Mt. Keira and the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, is known for its streams, birds, gardens and peaceful setting. The city is surrounded by national parks from which visitors can access the best of Australia's scenery.

Housing and Meals

Upon admission to UOW, AustraLearn will provide students with instructions to apply for housing.

Students choosing to study at Wollongong have a range of accommodation options. Live among your classmates in university-managed residences, available with or without meal plans. If a student is really looking for an independent experience, the option to find one's own housing is also available.

Courses

Study abroad students can participate in rigorous courses from one or more of the nine faculties at UOW: Arts, Commerce, Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Health & Behavioral Sciences, Informatics, Law, and Science. Students also have the chance to study the host country in depth by enrolling in uniquely Australian courses that focus on topics such as Aboriginal history and Australian culture and geography.
