ALL AU Abroad Students
AU Abroad students do not register through the my.american.edu
portal! Instead, AU Abroad students select their courses
through the AU Abroad pre-departure portal available
to each student by logging into the AU Abroad Web
site and clicking the "Pre-departure Checklist"
link. This is the same site that students used to
track their application progress during the application
phase.
Once AU Abroad has received your registration information
through the portal, we will register you officially
in the American University student system at a designated
time.
Your financial aid packages cannot be disbursed until
you are registered officially in AU's data system.
The AU Abroad office is NOT able to register students
in the university system (which shows up on my.american.edu)
until registration information is submitted through
the AU Abraod portal. So, it is to your advantage
to complete it as soon as possible. Generally students
have the ability to select their courses shortly after
they submit their program deposit. Students who have
not selected their courses in a timely manner will
be dropped from their AU Abroad program.
If students have already registered for courses conducted
on campus, they will be dropped from these courses
and enrolled in AU Abroad course sections.

AU Partner and Provider Program
Registration
Registering for a placeholder course
Students participating in Partner or Provider programs
must also complete the course registration form located
on the AU Abroad pre-departure checklist. You will
be selecting one of the Placeholder Courses, AUAB-300-001
(undergraduate) or AUAB-600-001 (graduate). Undergraduates
will select 12 or 15 credits depending on scholarship
requients. This number does not correlate to the actual
number of credit hours that will transfer back from
the host institution. This course will keep you registered
in AU's system as a full-time student so financial
aid and other AU services remain in tact. All students
must maintain full-time student status while abroad,
12-17 credits for undergraduates, 9 credits for graduate
students. You must take courses for a grade while
abroad, pass/fail is not an option.
Upon receipt of an official transcript
from your AU Abroad Partner institution, you will
be dropped from this placeholder and your profile
will be updated to reflect the courses you took abroad
provided that you have received approval for these
courses on the AU Abroad Course Approval Form. If
a course appears on your transcript that does not
also appear on your course approval form, you MUST
complete an additional Course Approval Form, authorizing
credit for this course before it can be added to your
student record.
Course Approval Form
It is necessary to obtain the proper course approvals
from your Academic Advisor and Department in order
to receive credit for courses taken at an AU Abroad
Partner and Provider Institutions. If you haven't
yet submitted a complete Course
Approval Form to the AU Abroad office you must
do so immediately. We recommend students have 8-10
courses approved in advance. Students should note
that course selections are not guaranteed and offerings
at Partner institutions are subject to frequent changes.
Please see information regarding Course
and Credits.
