Withdrawal Policy

In the event that a student elects to withdraw from AU Abroad, he/she must notify AU Abroad immediately in writing.  The request to withdraw from AU Abroad will be effective on the date that written notification is received by the AU Abroad office.  However, the student will be responsible for any expenses incurred on his/her behalf prior to the date of withdrawal from the program; these expenses are non-refundable. **Tuition refunds in this program do not follow the standard refund policy as outlined in the American University Schedule of Classes. No refunds are guaranteed after the program start date and depend upon the terms of any/all contracts between American University and affiliates of its AU Abroad programs. **

Permit to Study Abroad Policy

American University students wishing to participate in a program outside of AU Abroad's offerings must complete a Permit to Study Abroad and Assumption of Risks form to receive AU credit. AU will charge an administrative fee of $2000/semester, or $1000 for a summer program to any student participating on a study abroad program via a Permit to Study Abroad. Approval of a Permit to Study Abroad cannot be guaranteed, but is subject to final review by the student's Dean and the Director of AU Abroad. Approval may be denied should any AU Abroad Program offer analagous academic offerings and/or location. Students must contact AU Abroad to begin the Permit to Study Abroad process prior to applying to the non-AU Abroad program.
