The following information pertains to general AU
Abroad policies:
Student Regulations Abroad
To participate in AU Abroad, students are required
to submit accurate and complete application and
pre-departure information, be in good academic standing,
disclose any pending disciplinary case or discipline
record, and grant the University permission to use
any photographs, audio, and/or videotapes of them
and quotes taken from them in connection with AU
Abroad for any educational and other purposes related
to the business of American university.
Once confirmed, students enter the pre-departure
preparation phase and must sign a Consent
and General Release Agreement prior to departure.
Please review this document carefully as it describes
the terms and conditions for AU Abroad participation,
student conduct rules, and a waiver of legal liability.

Withdrawal Policy
In the event that a student elects to withdraw
from AU Abroad, he/she must notify AU Abroad immediately
in writing. The request to withdraw from AU
Abroad will be effective on the date that written
notification is received by the AU Abroad office.
However, the student will be responsible
for any expenses incurred on his/her behalf prior
to the date of withdrawal from the program; these
expenses are non-refundable. **Tuition
refunds in this program do not follow the standard
refund policy as outlined in the American University
Schedule of Classes. No refunds are guaranteed after
the program start date and depend upon the terms
of any/all contracts between American University
and affiliates of its AU Abroad programs. **

Permit to Study Abroad Policy
American University students wishing to participate
in a program outside of AU Abroad's offerings must
complete a Permit to Study Abroad and Assumption
of Risks form to receive AU credit. AU will charge
an administrative fee of $2000/semester, or $1000
for a summer program to any student participating
on a study abroad program via a Permit to Study
Abroad. Approval of a Permit to Study Abroad cannot
be guaranteed, but is subject to final review by
the student's Dean and the Director of AU Abroad.
Approval may be denied should any AU Abroad Program
offer analagous academic offerings and/or location.
Students must contact AU Abroad to begin
the Permit to Study Abroad process prior to applying
to the non-AU Abroad program.
