Contest
Prizes and Regulations
PRIZES
Grand Prizes: Prizes will be awarded in each category. Winners receive: 1st prize - $100 in Eagles Bucks, 2nd prize - $75 in Eagle Bucks, and 3rd prize - $50 in Eagle Bucks. The winning photographs will be used in AU Abroad promotions, as well as on the website.
Honorable Mentions: Photographers will have their names and photographs featured on the AU Abroad website.
Winners will be announced at AU's Study Abroad Fair on January 22, 2008. Stay tuned for specifics!
CONTEST REGULATIONS
Limits: AU Abroad students may submit a maximum of 3 photographs in each category (6 maximum overall) and one video.
Deadline: January 5, 2008
FORMAT
Digital Cameras
Photographers should capture images for submission at maximum resolution. Photographs should be saved as high-quality JPEG files. File names should be composed of the student's name, photograph title and 2-letter category abbreviation (see categories above). In the text of the email, please explain the place where the photograph was taken and any additional relevant details. All submissions should be sent to auabroad@american.edu uploaded to the flickr group "AU Abroad Fall 2007.
Scanning
Electronic submissions are encouraged and those without a digital camera who have access to a scanner should scan their photographs 3"x5" or larger at 400 dpi. Negatives or slides should be scanned at 800 dpi. Save all files as individual photographs, not in groups. Photographs should be saved as high-quality JPEG files. File names should be composed of the student's Name, Photograph Title and 2-letter category abbreviation (see categories above). In the text of the email, please explain the place where the photograph was taken and any additional relevant details.All submissions should be sent to auabroad@american.edu uploaded to the flickr group "AU Abroad Fall 2007.
Print
Any print photographs may be mailed as they are. Preferable photograph size is 8" x 10". Take care to avoid layering the photos with the images facing one other. Include a stick piece of cardboard (appropriately sized) in the envelope so as to prevent bending and sticking. As an added precaution, write "DO NOT BEND: Photos Enclosed" on the outside of the envelope. On the back of each photograph, students should list their name, photograph title, the 2-letter category abbreviation (see categories above), the place where the photograph was taken and any additional relevant details. Take care to write the aforementioned information gently on the back of the photograph.
Video
Students are now able to submit a digital video of their study abroad experience. Students should submit only one 5 minute video. Online submissions may be sent to auabroad@american.edu in either Quicktime or Windows Media Player formats. A DVD may be mailed to the address below. All submissions should include students Name, Video Title, where the video was shot and any other relevant details.

Postal submissions MUST include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your photographs after February 1, 2008. AU Abroad accepts no responsibility for lost or damaged photographs.

By uploading your photographs to the Flickr site or by sending them to the AU Abroad office, you hereby grant American University an irrevocable non-exclusive license to display, copy, and distribute copies (in print, electronic, and/or any digital format) of my photographs/videos which you submitted for the AU Abroad Fall 2006 Photo Contest, and to incorporate any submitted photograph/video, in whole or in part, into derivative works for educational, research, archival, marketing, promotional, and other purposes consistent with the mission of American University. You also agree that no compensation shall be due to me. You hereby release American University, its officers, directors, agents, and employees from all liability or legal responsibility that may arise from the acts that you granted herein.
