Explore the beauty of New Zealand’s geography!

Life in Wellington

Students attending Victoria University will study in Wellington, New Zealand’s political, commercial, financial, intellectual, and cultural capital. It’s located at the southern tip of New Zealand’s North Island and is home to all of New Zealand’s national institutions. It’s also the center of New Zealand’s international technology-based film industry, the second city in the world to become completely wired, and has one of the highest rates of internet usage in the world. The population is about 400,000 people, but do not let the size fool you: there is always something going on in Wellington! In addition to hosting one of the top six arts festivals in the world, the International Festival of the Arts, Wellington hosts about 40 other arts and cultural festivals every year.

Housing and Meals

Partner students are responsible for making housing and meal arrangements directly with Victoria U Accommodation staff. There are several accommodation options at Victoria University that allow AU students to be integrated with local students from New Zealand including Halls of Residence, and apartments located close to the main Kelburn campus.

Victoria's Accommodation Service provides accommodation information for students coming for a semester or longer and can be contacted for further information via their Web site.

NOTE: The Victoria University of Wellington HOUSING APPLICATION DEADLINE for the USA Spring semester is BEFORE the general study abroad application deadline. If you wish to apply for university accommodation, visit their website as soon as possible to apply for a spot in housing. HOUSING APPLICATION DEADLINE for Spring: OCT 1.
