Life in Cape Town
With beaches, mountains and forests on your doorstep,
Cape Town is an historic, cosmopolitan city with a
vibrant contemporary culture of music and art, as
well as a host of sport and leisure activities. Cape
Town forms the hub of the Western Cape, and it is
the centre of politics, business, industry and services
in the region. This region provides an ideal "laboratory"
for much of the University's teaching and research.
CIEE Orientation and On-Site Staff
AU students studying at UCT have the added benefit
of having a full-time staff at CIEE dedicated to student
services. The
CIEE program provides extra administrative support,
personal attention during the predeparture process,
an airport pick-up service, an on-site
orientation, excurstions, and activities throughout
the semester.
Housing
AU students stay on-campus in UCT Residences. Accommodations
are coordinated by CIEE.
Calendar
The South African academic calendar begins at the
beginning of the calendar year. The first semester
of the South African school year begins in late-February
(normally an AU Spring semester), and the second semester
of the South African school year begins in mid-July
(normally an AU Fall semester). Refer to CIEE's
