Life in Dublin

Dublin began as a Viking settlement founded over one thousand years ago on the banks of the River Liffey and situated on a majestic broad sweeping bay. Dublin is now the thriving capital of an independent Ireland and is the centre of the political, diplomatic, administrative and commercial life of the country. It is home to a population of approximately one million people. The city features all the excitement and diversity one would expect of a great capital, with particularly lively entertainment and night life.

The University College Dublin campus is situated at Belfield, a leafy suburb about three miles from the center of Dublin and extends across a vast 300-acre estate. The campus is an attractively landscaped complex of modern architectural buildings, accommodating most of the Faculties of the University as well as its student residences and numerous leisure and sporting facilities.

Housing and Meals

Partner students are responsible for making housing and meal arrangements independently. Once accepted, students must submit an accommodation application by the appropriate deadline. There is limited student accommodation on campus in three locations - Roebuck Hall, Belgrove and Merville Residences. All of these residences are within one minute's walk of Faculty buildings and other amenities and accommodation takes the form of three, four and five bedroom self-catering apartments. These apartments are fully equipped but it is necessary to bring your own kitchen items. Students can also choose to live off-campus but are responsible for locating their own housing. UCD can provide listings of available apartments.
