Studying abroad in Leiden provides international undergraduate
students with the opportunity to study in the Netherlands
on a semester or academic year basis. Leiden lets students
experience life abroad, new cultures and different lifestyles,
while gaining an academic education at an excellent
university. This program offers students a unique combination
of international living and learning.
Leiden University
is the oldest university in the Netherlands and has
an enrollment of over 16,000 students. Life in Leiden
is greatly influenced by the relatively large number
of students, as most of them both live and study in
the historic city of Leiden, which has a total of
118,000 inhabitants. Since the promotion of international
exchanges is one of the universities main priorities,
the university also has many international students
(approximately 1600) as well as numerous contacts
with academic establishments abroad.
Students in Leiden may count on personal attention
and guidance in both their academic and their personal
life. Teaching at all levels is aimed not merely at
the acquisition of knowledge, but also at firmly encouraging
the student’s capacity for independent thought.
The Netherlands may be a small country, but its
location and excellent infrastructure make it an important
crossroads for trade and commerce within the European
Union. The excellent Dutch transportation system makes
exploration in and around the Netherlands a breeze.
