Studying abroad in Leiden provides international undergraduate students with the opportunity to study in the Netherlands on a semester or academic year basis. Leiden University is the oldest university in the Netherlands and has an enrollment of over 16,000 students. Life in Leiden is greatly influenced by the relatively large number of students, as most of them both live and study in the historic city of Leiden, which has a total of 118,000 inhabitants. Since the promotion of international exchanges is one of the universities main priorities, the university also has many international students (approximately 1600) as well as numerous contacts with academic establishments abroad.
