Beautiful Krakow
|
Located in the heart of Europe, Poland is a vibrant country that attracts millions of visitors with its connections
to both Eastern and Western Europe. Living in Poland is watching history in making. Only a decade removed from
Soviet control, Poland is quickly transitioning into a cosmopolitan country with modern cities similar to the ones found in its fellow
European Union member countries.
As the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe, Jagiellonian University's reputation attracts
large numbers of international students, many sponsored by their government or organizations in their own country.
AU students will take classes with students from around the world through
Jagiellonian University's Center for European Studies.
The Royal City of Krakow, capital of Poland till the 17th century, is now a city of culture and learning, with
13 institutions of higher education, numerous theatres, cinemas, museums, galleries, music centres and cabarets.
Krakow, in the south of Poland only 90 minutes from the Tatra Mountains and Slovak border, and 50 minutes from
Auschwitz by car, the Jagiellonian University is well placed to explore not only the whole of Poland, but also
mainland Europe. Krakow is a unique city. On the one hand, it is old and conservative. On the other hand, avant
garde ideas are born here, for example the "Young Poland" style of the turn of the 20th century. Similarly, daring
new ideas are developed at the University.
