Mexico: El Colegio de Mexico -
Application, Visa & Costs

Application
American University students should have a strong
interest in Latin American Studies, be an advanced
Spanish speaker, and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher,
in order to attend this program. Students should have
junior standing. Graduate students can also be considered.
Partner deadlines require students to submit all
application materials to AU Abroad by March
15 (Fall and Full-year programs; please note
that this is two weeks prior to our
Enclave application deadline) and October 1 (Spring
programs). In addition to the application materials
listed on our Apply page,
students are required to submit materials for El Colegio
de Mexico’s application:
- Letter of Intention - Student should discuss what
they would like to study at El Colegio
- An Official Transcript
- A Letter of Recommendation from an AU faculty
All materials should be submitted to AU Abroad.

Visa Information
Upon acceptance, on-site staff
in Mexico will provide students with an official letter.
El Colegio de Mexico or AU Abroad will distribute
the letters to students. U.S. citizens may enter Mexico
on a Tourist Visa, but must apply for their Student
Visa upon entering the country. Students are responsible
for contacting the Mexican
Embassy or Consulate to find out which additional
documents are needed to obtain a Student Visa.
