The largest metropolitan area in a mostly rural country, Cairo is home to a vibrant society. Ancient civilizations continues to develop today in this unique country.

The American University in Cairo (AUC) was founded in 1919 by Americans devoted to education and service in the Middle East. The continuing mission of AUC is to provide high quality educational opportunities to students from all segments of Egyptian society as well as from other countries, and to contribute to Egypt's cultural and intellectual life. AU students can now become part of this international campus community and contribute to improving America's understanding of this remarkable country and region.
