Courses
Students take courses within the Yemen Language Center
(YLC) at Yemen College of Middle Eastern Studies.
The YLC's Arabic Language Learning Program is open
to students of all
ability levels. With almost twenty years of experience,
the Yemen Language Center has developed an excellent
curriculum of Arabic courses. Classroom instruction
is designed to develop the student's speaking and
listening skills, as reading and writing can be covered
both in non-Arabic environments and from homework
drills.
A comprehensive placement examination evaluating each
student's speaking, listening, reading, and writing
skills is administered prior to the start of each
term. Classes are organized on the basis of examination
results in consultation with the teaching staff. Standard
Instruction consists of either 4 hours of group instruction
per day, or 2 hours of private instruction per day,
depending on total enrollment and individual student
level.* Students attend classes 5 days per week. Students
earn 4-8 credits.
All Arabic language classes are capped at a maximum
of eight students per class, though are many times
less than this. Arabic language classes are held Saturday
through Wednesday.
In addition to academic credit at AU, the YLC will
provide a Certificate of Completion after the successful
completion of a final examination administered at
the end of the course.
