Student Life

Wander through the narrow streets of Cuetzalán!
|
You have the option of living in a dormitory on the UDLAP campus, or with a Mexican family in a homestay. Dorms have shared bathrooms and common areas, and every effort is made to place program students with Mexican roommates. Meals are taken in the campus cafeterias. Students choosing a homestay are placed in single bedrooms with families that are carefully selected to ensure students are treated as a member of the family and exposed to everyday Mexican culture. Breakfast and dinner are taken with the family, lunch on campus. All homestays are located within a 30-minute ride by public transportation to the UDLA campus. Homestay housing is limited, and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Excursions
Included in the program fee are five field trips to places near the university, including the Great Pyramid, downtown Puebla and the crafts market, the prehispanic art museum, and other sites in nearby towns. Optional weekend excursions are also offered for an additional cost. Students can pay for these optional excursions on site. Sample destinations include the Zocalo and Anthropology Museum in Mexico City, the famous archaeological site of Teotihuacan, Taxco and the beach at Acapulco, and the beautiful city of Oaxaca.
Schedule
The Mexico: Universidad de las Americas, Puebla:
Spanish Immersion program takes place every Summer.
Please consult the UDLAP
Spanish Immersion Program Web site for more information
on program dates.
Other Program Features
Included in the program is participation in two three-week long workshops which are designed to help you learn more about Mexican life and culture. You can choose from Latin Dancing, Mexican Cuisine, Community Service, or Mexican music and songs.
The program is assisted by "animadores", Mexican UDLA students who accompany the program students from the moment they arrive at the Mexican City airport. Animadores are trained in first-aid and in counseling, and they also organize and supervise regular conversation circles to increase the opportunities program students have to converse with native speakers.
