Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is an Indonesian public ivy league research university located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, founded in 1949. UGM is the oldest and largest institution of higher learning in Indonesia. Located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the 360 acre university comprises of 18 Faculties and 68 undergraduate study programs. It has approximately 55,000 students, 1,187 foreign students and 2,500 faculty members currently. Universitas Gadjah Mada has been considered to be one of the most prestigious universities in Indonesia.
The Special Region of Yogyakarta of where UGM is located, is one of the smallest provinces in Indonesia and has been widely known as a center of Javanese culture as well as a center of learning. It has 3,400,000 inhabitants, 511,000 of whom reside in the city of Yogyakarta. Its designation as a center of learning is marked by the existence of 120 state and private tertiary educational institutions, with a student population in the city of over 300,000.
AU Abroad is now proud to offer this extraordinarily unique opportunity for AU students to study directly at UGM and experience Indonesia first-hand. AU students integrate into campus life at UGM and live and take courses directly within the university alongside local students
and other international students.
AU students directly enroll in Gadjah Mada University (UGM) as an international student for either a semester or a full year and earn full AU credit. International students can take courses offered primarily by UGM's Faculty of Social & Political Sciences, although some limited additional courses in English may also be available in other departments. The program will be best suited for students with an interest in International Relations and the politics/economics of the region, along with students that have an interest in traditional Indonesian arts/culture, philosophy and religion.

Yogyakarta is a thriving, medium-sized Indonesia city on the island of Java that presents an excellent location for study abroad students. The city has a massive student population with over 100 educational institutions located within it and it is widely known as a center of traditional Javanese arts and culture, as well as popular youth culture. UGM offers over a 300-acre beautiful green campus environment with lots of student life facilities and activities both on and off campus.
UGM does not have on-campus university housing. Study abroad students instead will have housing arranged at one of the many student hostels/residences located nearby within walking distance of campus. Students are responsible for purchasing their own meals. There is no meal plan, but there are many alternatives such as the college cafeterias, or in the university area's many restaurants.
The Gadjah Mada University program is available for Fall semester, Spring semester and Full Year.
