Study Abroad for Literature Majors

AU Abroad, in consultation with the Department of Literature, offers a selection of programs suited for Literature Majors. These programs are recommended based on the academic quality of the host institution’s course offerings in your major. In addition to the following programs, students can also explore other options through AU Abroad.

Students may study abroad between their second semester of sophomore year through their senior year. The Literature Department recommends that students study abroad during their junior year.  Students opting to study abroad during senior year must complete the capstone and thesis requirement during their junior year, and therefore must plan other elements of the major as far ahead as possible. Majors opting for the Transcultural Studies track within the major are especially encouraged to study abroad.

Literature majors can count up to six credit hours of pre-approved courses, taken while abroad, towards their upper level major course requirements. Additional courses under consideration for credit must be pre-approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

If you are pursuing either the Cinema Studies minor or the Cinema Studies track within the major, you can go abroad! Check out our growing list of film programs available at numerous institutions around the world.
