Housing

Students will live with a Moroccan family for the duration of the program. The homestay allows students to experience the life and customs of Morocco while enhancing their language skills. Although students are placed in separate homes, all host families live near the old medina or other neighborhoods that are near to Mohammed V University. Homestay families are carefully selected based on applications, interviews, and references. Participants will usually be placed with families who have previous experience hosting American students through AMIDEAST. Few, if any, of the families speak English; the majority of the families speak Arabic as a first language and some are also fluent in French, while a minority speak Spanish or Berber as well. Students will be matched with families using a variety of criteria. While preferences can never be guaranteed, every effort will be made to make a good match between students and families to ensure a rewarding homestay experience.

Meals

Students will enjoy all their daily meals with their Moroccan host families. The cost of meals during excursions are included in the general program fee.

Student Guide

The Rabat Enclave Student Guide contains information from AMIDEST regarding program structure and living abroad.

* The " Arrival " date is the day on which you need to arrive at your site, NOT the date you leave the U.S. The program starts on the "Arrival" date and this is the day on which program-sponsored housing begins. If you arrive before this date, you are responsible for your own housing. Do not expect to move into program-sponsored housing early.

** The "
Departure " date is the official end of the program. All program-related activities will end the night prior to this date (in some cases you may have a farewell dinner, etc.) On the "Departure" day you must leave your housing. Do not expect to stay in program-sponsored housing after the "Departure" date.

Program Dates are subject to change.
