Study Abroad in Rabat!
|
Morocco is a gateway to the Arab world and beyond.
A meeting point for civilizations and continents situated
on the northwest tip of Africa, contemporary Morocco,
with its 35 million people, is a unique mixture of
Middle Eastern, African, and European cultures. Students
will have the opportunity to experience life in a
Muslim country while exploring the distinct society
and traditions of the Maghreb. Morocco's political,
social, economic and historical experiences will challenge
students' preconceptions about Islam, democracy, development,
ethnicity and modernity.
The AU Abroad program is located in
the country's capital city of Rabat. Students will
earn a full semester of academic credit through academic
study at Morocco's premier academic institution, Mohammed
V University, and through intensive language study
in both Modern Standard Arabic and colloquial Moroccan
Arabic. Special activities such as academic excursions
to other parts of Morocco, community service with
Moroccan institutions, cultural events, and a homestay
with a Moroccan family will complement formal studies.
The program will be managed in partnership with AMIDEAST
(America-Mideast Educational and Training Services,
Inc), a U.S. private, non-profit organization that
has been operating in Morocco since 1979. AMIDEAST/Rabat
will provide a full range of academic and other support
services, and students will have access to the AMIDEAST
facilities that include a well-equipped computer center.
The application deadline for study
in Morocco for the fall term is February 15.
Spring applications are due October 1.
Enrollment in this program is especially limited for
the spring 2010 term.
