Application
While there is no required course prerequisite for the Belgium: Brussels European
Union Enclave, study of micro- and macroeconomics prior to participation in
the program is strongly encouraged.

**** PLEASE READ ******* Students applying to the
Brussels program are required to apply for a student
visa, which in turn requires a criminal background
check. (Please note the the Brussels program is a
non-accredited program.) Therefore you must submit
proof of application for an "FBI
Identification Record". This record is required
for a for all Brussels program students, regardless
of age. "Proof of Application" can be a
copy of the submitted application OR proof of postage
from the United States Postal Service or a national
mail courier (Fed Ex, UPS, etc.) with the address
of a national or local FBI center. When ordering the
FBI background check, please indicate in the space
provided that the form is needed for visa purposes
by November 15 for spring applicants and May 15 for
fall applicants.
INTERNATIONAL students must apply for a background
clearance from their home country (not the FBI). Please
consult with the program advisor prior to application
to discuss your particular situation.
Students applying for the SPRING semester - Do NOT
wait until the AU Abroad due date on October 15 to
apply for your FBI Clearance. You should apply as
soon as possible, and no later than the October 1.
Visa Information
American University students are now required to
obtain a student visa for the program. Students should
consult the website of the Belgian
Embassy or Consulate to obtain information on
the requirements for a student visa.Non-US citizens
are encouraged to check with all relevant embassies
to be aware of any special circumstances or requirements.
