Housing

AU Abroad in Berlin students can choose from two housing options.

Homestay

The homestay may entail a family or one or more adults as hosts. Students in homestays learn firsthand about German culture and enjoy increased exposure to the German language. Additionally, homestay students enjoy breakfasts and dinners with their family.

Studio Apartment

A fully-furnished, single-occupancy studio apartment is also available to students. The outstanding public transportation system provides easy access to your classes and all facilities at the Freie Universität as well as a means of exploring the city. No meal plan is incorporated into the studio option. The apartments do not feature telephone or internet connection. If desired these features can be set up by the student upon arrival.

Schedule

The Germany: Berlin Enclave takes place every Fall and Spring semester.

FU-BEST academic schedule:
Start of Fall 2008 semester (Arrival date):Wednesday, August 27
Midterm break: October 17-26
End of Fall semester: Thursday, December 11

Start of Spring 2008 semester: Wednesday, January 9
Midterm break: Feb. 29- March 9
End of Spring semester (Departure date): Thusday, April 24

* The "Start" date is the day you need to arrive at your site, NOT the date you leave the U.S. The program starts on the "Arrival" date and this is the day on which program-sponsored housing begins. If you arrive before this date, you are responsible for your own housing. Do not expect to move into program-sponsored housing early.

** The "End" date is the official end of the program. All program-related activities will end the night prior to this date (in some cases you may have a farewell dinner, etc.) You will normally be expected to depart from your homestay no later than about 4 days after the conclusion of the program. Apartments are rented through the entire month of December or April respectively. Program Dates are subject to change.
