Germany: Freie Universitat Berlin -

On November 9, 1989, the city of Berlin essentially
doubled in size. The Berlin Wall --the city's dividing
bastion for 28 years-- crumbled in the hands of reunited
Berliners as the whole world watched.
If you want to get a sense of the reunified Germany
and the challenges of the post-Cold War era in a fast-changing
Europe, there is really almost no better place to
come to than Berlin. Located in the heart of Europe,
this metropolis with some 3.4 million inhabitants
will offer you unrivalled educational, intellectual,
cultural, and recreational opportunities. Either through
the program or on your own, you will be able to become
acquainted with many parts of Germany and Europe.
What is more, Berlin's rich museum landscape, its
monuments and memorials, its concert halls and opera
houses, its stage and movie theaters, and its range
of recreational offerings will all be at your disposal.
The AU Abroad program in Berlin is an integral part
of the FU-BEST (Berlin European Studies) program of
the Freie Universität (FU), our partner institution
in the German capital. This program offers fascinating
perspectives on Germany in a broader (Central) European
context. Our program will enable you to enroll in
stimulating courses taught by expert faculty. While
there is no prior German language training required
for this program, all students will make solid progress
in their German language skills, with language courses
from elementary through advanced. Group-based or individualized
local field trips will be linked to many of the courses.
For full details, please visit www.fu-berlin.de/fubest.
This program is offered in the Fall and Spring semesters,
or for a full year.
